It’s all over now
My worst fear has come true…
Houston Astros center fielder Hunter Pence, one of the
leading candidates for National League Rookie of the Year,
was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of an injured
wrist on Monday. “He came in (Monday) with the wrist swollen
and obviously very sore, so we had an MRI done and we got
the results right before the game,” Purpura said. “It is
very unfortunate to lose a young player who has had such an
impact on this club to this point.”
Pence hurt the wrist sliding into second base in the fourth
inning Sunday at Pittsburgh. General manager Tim Purpura
said Pence is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.
Not only does this kill the Astros, it hurts my fantasy baseball team right when Alan has taken a nice lead in 1st, and Chad, CJ, and I trade the 2nd-4th spots daily. Also, it means for the next month I need a new boyfriend. Huston Street is back with the A’s, so there’s that, but um… speaking of teams that aren’t doing so well this season… That leaves me with the Mets, the 3rd team I have a fondness for but can’t really give in to because they’re in the same division as my team and no matter what Alan says, liking the uniforms is not a good enough reason to pick them over my hometown team. (Terrible management and general braindead fuck-tardness on the part of said hometown team, maybe.)
But if my team is effectively out of the running in the NL, it’s okay to switch over right? I mean, if your boyfriend sprains his wrist, you’re allowed to select someone else to pinch hit for him, right? [Yeah, let that metaphor rattle around in your brain for a while.] Plus, if I briefly switch over to the Mets I know a guy I can borrow a jersey or twelve from.
On the bright side, football season is coming soon and I’m sure the Texans will be winning lots. And I can’t even type that sentence without laughing.
Work is good, despite what you all like to tell Scott in IRC. It has done nothing but rained in Texas for about 2 months now. It’s kept the temps low, which is nice, and I’ve gotten over my general anxiety about driving in the rain (cause I have no choice), and the wildflowers next Spring will be phenomenal. This is all well and good but it’s still raining every damn day and this is Texas dammit. I respectfully request a full stopage.
I did get a chance to enjoy a rare sunny day a couple of weekends ago and went on a photo walk downtown with a friend. I’m very pleased with the results.
And now, off to work for me.
