and all you’ve got to do is let go…

Work plods on, having gotten slightly more interesting in the past couple of weeks as my boss turned in his resignation notice. It’s mixed emotions – you hate to see him go yet now his short-timer syndrome means he’s a lot of fun. Such as the other day when he spoke primarily in quotes from Talladega Nights. Following up on a conversation he and I had the day before, he imparted a bit of wisdom:

“If you’re not first, you’re last.”
Ookkaay…I’m not really sure what you’re telling me there…
“If you’re not first, you’re last.”
Listen Ricky Bobby, I appreciate the advice you’re trying to give, but you’re going to have to spell it out for me, okay?

Meeting over, as we left his office he called out “Shake and Bake, baby!”. And so it went all day.

It seems like I’ve been carrying around the same twelve items on my to do list for the past couple of weeks, but I did get to cross off one of them this past Friday – I took one of my teams to lunch as a reward for the excellent job they’ve done with one of our most challenging clients. Much to the enjoyment of my team, our waiter was extremely flirty with me, and they prodded me to leave my phone number and suggestive little note on the receipt as I signed. I reminded them that I had to turn the copy in and that unless they had a really good story ready for our CFO; I’d be passing. “Besides, if he really wants to find me, he can. That’s why God gave us MySpace and Facebook.” “That’s right girl!’, they replied, ‘And Missed Connections!”

I mean call me old fashioned but I like a man to put a little effort in to it, ya know?

Speaking of missed connections; to the woman driving on Mopac Saturday afternoon who wagged her finger at me because she apparently felt I was driving too fast/too close/too whatever: Fuck you. Drive faster.
